Thanks Natasha for providing the April Comp wrap, featuring the much loved Juniors and beginner grades.
Rapt!
It was a beautiful Bondi morning, high tide, full on the bank and very clean for our first comp heat, advanced juniors. A big welcome to our new junior sirens Lara and Poppy, not only advanced juniors but showing the older sisters what was what in the intermediate A heats.
Poppy opened it up with an ‘absolute screamer’, according to one of the judges, and a few nice drops were taken, mostly right in front of the judges so easy to score. In the end Poppy’s ride earned her first place, with Camille second and Lara third.
Lara created a bit of excitement with a drop in and collision caught on camera by her Dad, the original surfer still upright and Lara hidden behind a wall of foam…no surfers or boards were injured.
All the junior girls surfed in the Intermediate A heats, and Camille progressed made the finals, so well done Juniors, keep it up!
Comp wrap up for Adult Beginners
Phew!
It was slightly lower tide but still mighty full for the intrepid Adult Beginners, with Tasha and Maggie welcoming new member Daniella to the gang. Maggie led the way out and inspired us with the spirit of competition, and all were in position for the green flag. A few lovely waves caught us, and I was super excited to get my first win, not just the win but the wonderful prize of sea gypsy leggings, thanks to our sponsor and our sponsorship manager!
Maggie cruised into second place and Daniella took out third, by the way, good work Daniella, we all know how much guts that first ever comp takes, and it does get easier…
All winners this month were brand new members!!
See you all again Saturday for the May comp @ 7.30am
