See you all on Saturday chicks, forecast is for light winds and small forgiving swell.  A perfect way for us to warm up into the season.

10 Questions with Rach Haych

27 Sep

This week’s BGSR featured feline is the wonderful Rach Hainsworth. Between the upkeep of the BGSR website and home renovations in the Gong, you wouldn’t think Rach would have much time for hitting the surf. But she’s always ready for a stab. Let’s take 5 with her…..

How to make the most of this Saturday’s comp….

30 Aug

This Saturday it’s comp time!  See you bright and early on Saturday morning (7.30 – 8am rego) at the south end of the car park.

Tag Team Comp this weekend

1 Aug

Just when you thought the winter chills were going to be too much to tempt you down to Bondi for this Saturday’s BGSR comp, we thought we’d shake things up a bit, and roll out a morning of surfing fun that’s going to be hard to refuse…. Continue reading

Bon Voyage Kim G!

19 Jun

It’s time to say ciao to our lovely friend Kim Gillan who’s heading off on the adventure of a lifetime to South and Central America with her wonderful fella Joel.

I pilfered this mug shot of Kimbo from a google search (you never know what’s out there!), but would have much preferred to have had a salty, sandy and dishevelled surf shot of our fiery redhead – that’s how we’ll remember her best!

Kim’s been with the club for 3 or so years, and has been a ray of sunshine to us all.  As a born and bred Melbournite, she only truly discovered her love of surfing when she moved to Sydney.  Since then she’s thrown herself into it.  A super star of our Beginners grade, she’s improved her surfing through regular BGSR weekends away, freezing morning surfs (well, on occasion anyway!) and of course, regular comps.

This year Kim joined the BGSR committee and took on the fancily titled role of Media Liaison Officer.  She’s been responsible for writing updates for Frothers, getting us published in the Beast, and proofing the work of us less accomplished journalist wannabes.

Kim, we’re going to miss your big smile, easygoing nature and sense of fun.  Travel safe, make it the trip of a lifetime, and come back with stories that make us groan with jealousy!

Love from all the Bondi girls xxx

Comp this Saturday!

2 Jun

Hi all,

It’s comp time again.  Come down to the south end of the Bondi carpark this weekend for another kick ass get together.  This time, gammy knee and all, I’ll be there!

Rego closes at 8am, so make sure you’re there well before.  See you Saturday!

p.s Check out some pics from our BGSR weekend away in Bendalong.  Good food, good tunes, good waves, and an awesome bunch of girls…..recipe for a ripper time.  Thanks to Donna for organising it!

Not the Layne Beachley Classic

4 May

This week the surf has been going off for the chicks on the ASP Tour at the Layne Beachley Classic in Dee Why.  And this Saturday 7 May we’re gonna follow it up with our very own Bondi Beach Classic, BGSR style.  While we don’t expect you to pull out moves like 17 year old Tyler White below (go Juniors!), come on down and show your flair in the water.

A couple of things to remembers in case you’ve forgotten….

The day runs as follows:

7:30-8:00             Registration (Turn up after 8:00 at your peril.)

8:15                        Start Juniors Division

Where to meet:

In the carpark at the south end of Bondi Beach

What it’ll cost you :

Annual Membership Fee:           $60 (if you weren’t here last month or still owe $)

Juniors Membership Fee:          $40 annually (and no monthly comp fee)

Monthly Comp Fee:                       $5 (per division)

Reminder of New Rules:

The longboard division this year has moved from 8’ to 9’ minimum in line with WCT regulations.

Where’s Liv?

Bad news I’m afraid, since we last met your lively Prez has snapped the ACL in her knee and has just come out of surgery.  I’ve spent the last week on the couch (and counting) and will probably find it kinda difficult to hit the sand, let alone the surf!  Your fabulous committee will be there in full force to make sure the day rocks your world, and I’ll do my best to pop down and say hi.

Bring on Saturday!

Love Liv x

Was that a fun day or what?

8 Apr

Just to remind you what an awesome day our first BGSR comp was, here’s some pics courtesty of the papa of our rising junior beginners star Camille.  Thanks Cedric!

Thanks everyone for such a great turnout, and making it such a fantastic day (despite the howling gale).

See you all next month.
