April Comp Wrap

1 May

Image 10

Thanks Natasha for providing the April Comp wrap, featuring the much loved Juniors and beginner grades.

Rapt!
It was a beautiful Bondi morning, high tide, full on the bank and very clean for our first comp heat, advanced juniors. A big welcome to our new junior sirens Lara and Poppy, not only advanced juniors but showing the older sisters what was what in the intermediate A heats.

Poppy opened it up with an ‘absolute screamer’, according to one of the judges, and a few nice drops were taken, mostly right in front of the judges so easy to score. In the end Poppy’s ride earned her first place, with Camille second and Lara third.

Lara created a bit of excitement with a drop in and collision caught on camera by her Dad, the original surfer still upright and Lara hidden behind a wall of foam…no surfers or boards were injured.

All the junior girls surfed in the Intermediate A heats, and Camille progressed made the finals, so well done Juniors, keep it up!

Comp wrap up for Adult Beginners

Phew!
It was slightly lower tide but still mighty full for the intrepid Adult Beginners, with Tasha and Maggie welcoming new member Daniella to the gang. Maggie led the way out and inspired us with the spirit of competition, and all were in position for the green flag. A few lovely waves caught us, and I was super excited to get my first win, not just the win but the wonderful prize of sea gypsy leggings, thanks to our sponsor and our sponsorship manager!

Maggie cruised into second place and Daniella took out third, by the way, good work Daniella, we all know how much guts that first ever comp takes, and it does get easier…

All winners this month were brand new members!!

See you all again Saturday for the May comp @ 7.30am

The BGSR April 2013 comp bought to you by Salt Gypsy

15 Mar

banner-colour-logoWax up your boards & start training now girls, because the BGSR April comp is bought to you proudly by Salt Gypsy, and do you know what this means? Some RADICAL prizes! Yep that’s right, the winner of each division will get a pair of Salt Gypsy Surf Leggings.

What are these ‘surf legging’ things you say? Well, they are leggings, that you wear in the surf! (Well actually I would wear them outside of the surf as well, but that’s just me. Some people say leggings aren’t pants… but who cares what people say?!) ‘Cos melanoma ain`t pretty! They are perfect for Indo surf trips, long hot summer sesh’s and also I recently discovered- for days when Bondi is full of blue bottles an it’s too hot to wear a steamer!

Our very own BGSR member Clare Youmans snapped on a surf trip last year rocking a pair of bespoke Salt Gypsy leggings

Salt Gypsy are passionate supporters of women’s surfing and if you just can’t wait to get a pair of leggings till you win your division at the April comp, for every pair of bespoke surf leggings sold in March, they will donate a pair of leggings to the folks at Kovalam Surf Club in Southern India.

You`ll be helping to provide surf leggings, including their mini gypsy range, to local surf groms in Southern India and the crew of salties (Crystal Thornburg-Homcy, Liz Clark, Lauren Hill, Emi Koch, and Kate Baldwin) helping to create the doco ‘Beyond The Surface‘ which is an amazing project to document 6 Women touring India, experiencing the harsh economic and social differences & hoping to evoke unique ways surfing, yoga, & eco. creativity can bring about change.
